St. Joseph's Primary School

Sustrans
The Active School Travel Programme with Sustrans is an exciting initiative for schools who wish to see more of their pupils choosing a more active and healthy lifestyle. We at St Joseph’s have embraced this initiative and have achieved great success. We received our Bronze Award in ‘Excellence in Sustainable Travel’ in June 2017 and our Silver Award in June 2018 and we received Gold Award in May 2020. See below a snapshot of the work our school has carried out.
Sustrans Stay Home Stay Active
Even in these extraordinary times our children have still been working towards achieving success with Sustrans at home. From practicing their cycle skills, taking part in The Daily Mile, dancing together, keeping active on a nature walk, taking their pets for a walk, exercising on the trampoline, online keep fit classes with Joe Wicks, yoga, breathing exercises and practicing for sports day among many others.

Organisation & Policy
Meet our ‘Active Travel Champions’ for this year, they also form our Eco Council.

Our school takes part in ‘The Daily Mile’. It’s an easy and fun way to keep fit and maintain good health and wellbeing. For ‘World Mental Health Day’ we completed our Daily Mile around our village.

Raising Awareness
Our Active Travel Champions deliver regular assemblies to shout about the great work we do as a school and to inform the children of any upcoming events or workshops.
